And a little bit of history…
Montauk Yacht Club has been home to sportfishing captains & their boats for more than 8 decades. Rich in history and tradition… Named one of the Top Ten Marina Destinations in North America, Mexico, Bahamas and the Caribbean by Yachting Magazine. The club’s original membership included Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan, Nelson Doubleday, Edsel Ford, Harry Payne Whitney, Thomas Eastman, John Wanamaker and Harold S. Vanderbilt. Among the many guests was famed aviator Charles Lindbergh, who often flew his seaplane into the harbor to dock at the Marina.
The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina The newly renovated historic property is the perfect destination for cruising yachtsmen, boaters and sport fisherman. Guests seek the relaxation of the pristine ocean beaches, excitement that only the Hamptons can provide and Montauk’s world-class saltwater fishing, all in a luxuriously casual atmosphere.
After years of fishing the best tournaments on the East Coast, a group of captains decided to create a tournament for captains by captains. The result, Montauk Canyon Challenge. The flexible, common sense rules; the captains choice of fishing days & times, weather decisions, full range of species, lay day fishing options, affordable Calcutta’s and casual fun make this tournament one to remember. It’s an entire week of good sportsmanship, competition, great food & drink and that Montauk vibe…it’s not to be missed.
The tournament honors the memory of Chester Wolfe and his legendary SeaWolfe. Chester and Barbara Wolfe travelled the world sportfishing but always called Montauk home. They spent as much time in the canyons fishing for giant Blue Marlins as they did the dock at Montauk Yacht Club. We hope every crew that fishes our tournament gets the opportunity to experience the thrills of canyon fishing at its best.
Join us at the Captains Meeting on the Club Dock, just under Montauk Yacht Club’s historic lighthouse…tight lines.
